When's the last time you did a check on your credit? If you weren't aware, you may obtain a free credit check report.
Doing a free credit check is actually a wise move, especially if you plan on applying for any credit in the near future. Better to know ahead of time so you can fix it, then to be surprised by something you didn't know about that shows up in the credit check and ruins your chances of getting approval.
For example, when we were in the process of selling our first home, we didn't know that the tax service we used had made an error in our return, and we owed the state of California a couple of hundred of dollars (the previous state we had lived in), and that California had put a lien on our property in Michigan. This slowed up selling process.
Had we taken advantage of a free credit check in advance, we would have been able to address the problem ahead of time.
